Cafe St Petersburg @ Newton Center, MA Boston Russian

my friend’s bf just moved to boston from toronto and pork belly was in town this past weekend. we all went out together, our very first triple date. its amazing how life can change so much within a year. last year around this time we three girls were all at our down point of our relationships, but now we all found/re-found the person that we wanna share our lives with…. except pork belly is still so far away. life still isnt perfect yet, but we are working on it.

cafe st petersburg is really hard to find. it was pouring outside which made it even harder to find.

Bondir @ Boston Cambridge, MA

bondir instantly becomes one of my fave restaurants in boston. i was not gonna write a review because i didnt take pictures, but this place is too good to not share with you!
i must say the meal was exquisite. the keyword of this restaurant is ‘details’. from every little decoration of the restaurant, to the food, service, and everything, you can tell they put a lot of heart to every detail.

food was well executed. loved the ambience, cozy, intimate. great service. waiters were extremely knowledgeable, professional, attentive, unpretentious, and friendly.

impressive wine list – 09 St. Urbans-hof, Oekonomierat Nic. Weis, Mosel, Germany / riesling
as good as it gets. smooth, sweet, delicious, superb.

it’s always a good night when the wine is delicious.

instead of appetizers, bondir offers half portions of the entrees. this allows you try more variaty of their dishes.

everything is homemade here and everything is excellent!
we had:

Breads
9 Grain, The Sea, Barley Flour with Hops and Summer Herbs
the sea was awesome, made of seaweed.

Roasted Shallot-Pistachio Tart
Summer Vegetable Mignardises, Rye Berries, Herbs, Sorrel,
Mustard Oil, Toasted Pistachio Powder

Buckwheat Rigatoni
Braised Chicken and Chanterelle Mushroom Ragu with Lavender,
Garlic Scapes, Smoked Scamorza
this was my fave dish. the chicken was amazingly tender.

Scituate Striped Bass

Burnt Tomato Purée, Bronze Fennel Seed Lavash

Red Wheat Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe
Australian Perigord Truffle, Parmigiano, Fresh Pecorino,

Prezza @ North End Boston, MA

i had been wanting to go to prezza for a while and i finally went tonight with two friends. i made a reservation on opentable last night for 6:30. we got there on time and were seated right away.

prezza is one of the nicer restaurants in north end. service was very pleasant, friendly, and attentive. they offer an extensive wine list, but i wasnt in the mood of drinking because i was still recovering from last weekend.

olive oil with warm bread. you can pretty much tell if the restaurant is good or not from the beginning by the bread and olive oil/butter they serve. i already started liking this place.

Grilled Wild Tiger Prawn with frisee, black olive and oregano potato salad
exactly how i expected it to be.

Seared Scallops, English peas, fava beans, spring garlic and polenta

Potato Gnocchi with rock shrimp, roasted tomato, ramps and Parmigiano cheese
i heard prezza has really good pastas, so i had to try some. this dish is well executed. it is very tasty without being too bold or overwhelming.

the steak was huge so my friends splited one. i am not a huge steak person, but this is somewhat bland.
picture is show 1/2 of the steak.

BEST PART OF MY MEAL!!
Passion Fruit crème brulee with fresh whipped cream and coconut macaroons
omg i was blown away by this passion fruit creme brulee!!! what a heavenly mix.
maybe i just love everything passion fruit but this was amazingly delish, probably one of the best desserts ive ever had!! highly recommended!!

Tiramisu “Parfait” with Kahlua and espresso
tiramisu was very yum too. very creamy and satisfying.

Thai Food @ Bangkok 54 Arlington, VA

pork belly aka the best bf eversu’s sis is getting married tmr. we came to bangkok 54 for din din after rehearsal today.

the food was above average i’d say. well decorated although it looks kinda ghetto from outside.

i had a glass of riesling at the bar while waiting the group to arrive. didnt like it. i also had thai iced tea but it was too sweet and i could barely taste the tea.

the menu for our group:

calamari: where is the salt and pepper as described?

tum yum: i hate when all the lemongrass or all the herbs are still in the soup. i had to spit them out arggg. besides that it tastes normal.

duck curry: fave dish of the night. bold and flavorful.

shrimp pad thai: this was below average. tasted weird to me

pad cha from the sea: a bit too spicy and salty.. in a bad way.

snow peas: yay greens

Boston Restaurant Week @ Bistro du Midi Back Bay

we went to bistro du midi for restaurant week tonight. i wasnt impressed by the food, but the service was great. the waiter was super attentive and polite. my water/wine was never less than half full. we lost track of time at the end of meal cuz we were too drawn into our convo and it was already mid-night; nobody ever rushed us or made us feel uncomfortable of staying.

the ambience is supposed to be romantic and classy, but i felt really comfortable and cozy.

we started off with a bottle of riesling. and… here comes the food:

steamed mussels, fennel, tomato, garlic cream. this was iight. mussels were kinda sandy but relatively fresh. they werent well cleaned i think.

pan-seared hake, fricassee of mushrooms, asparagus, tomato confit, thyme and lemon-infused borth

when i go to a restaurant for the first time, i wanna discover something new. i usually try to avoid ordering hake because hake is super easy to make. it tastes similar in every restaurant and you cannot mess it up. just steam hake with soy sauce it tastes super good. i ordered it tonight because i didnt like other choices that they offered.
the hake was cooked just right and i bet you know what it tastes like.

my friend Stella (hi !! Stella) had this pan-roasted stater chicken, polenta, castelvetrano olives. she said it was iight

my dessert, the best thing ive had all night and probably one of the best desserts iv had in a restaurant recently. -> ginaduja palette, hazelnut ice cream
oh la la it was so good. super creamy and rich hazelnut flavor!!! loved it!

Brunch @ The Butcher Shop South End Boston, MA

today, i had brunch with my friends and pork belly @ the butch shop in south end. this is actually a butcher shop, but kinda trendy atmosphere.

this is one of the Barbara Lynch restaurants. the food was very fresh and delicious!! service was friendly, but really slow.

i had a horrible morning, so i had to have a glass of wine. i ordered a glass of riesling, i have to say, it was one of the best rieslings i have had in a restaurant.

cauliflower soup. very rich tasting.

shepherd’s pie consists of meat, parsnips, cauliflower, and curry. this was delicious. it was delicious!!

TBS sandwich. i didnt have this, but according to my friend, it was super super good!

expresso

chocolate mousse

creme caramel – the fancy smaller version of flan?!?!

the meat:

the butcher:

hands down, food was def delicious, but i think it is a little pricey.

Grotto @ Beacon Hill Boston, MA

pork belly and i had been planning to go to menton for our 2nd anniversary forever, but we have been spending too much money recently. pork belly just bought me a mac pro and a flash for my leica. if we go to menton, i def wanna go HAM which means dropping 4+ benjamins with tasting menu and wine paring. so we dediced to put off menton and go somewhere else instead. we picked grotto.

this restaurant is pretty small and cramped, but somewhat comfortable. very dark that i had to use my cellphone light to read the menu. pretty good and speedy service that i dont usually experience at small restaurants like this.

for appetizers we had mussels:

i love mussels, but this was just ok.

ricotta with sausage:

this was actually better than i expected. very creamy and tasty. really liked the cheese!!!!!!

potato gnocchi, short ribs, mushrooms, gorgonzola

this is grotto’s most popular dish. it was actually much better than i expected. the short ribs were super tender.

lobster fra diavolo

i was pretty disappointed with this dish. the lobster wasnt tender. the spicy sauce wasn’t bold and flavorful. it was ok. didnt meet my expectations.

melting chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. this was pretty good and normal tasting.

trio of ice creams: vanilla, chocolate, and caramel. for real? three whole scoops of ice creams?! this looked like a whole meal that can feed an entire family. normal tasting nothing too special.

happy 2nd anniversary chea

Drinking @ W Lounge Boston

we came to the W lounge after din din last friday for drinks. i had a glass of riesling (duh) to start off. it was pretty bad. my friends had two cocktails which tasted decent. we also had a bottle of champagne. very relaxing atmosphere and comfy seatings! the waitress was kinda pushy probably due to no minimum spending.
