after all these years, i finally checked out the Cherry Blossom Festival in DC.

Sushi Taro @ Dupont Circle Washington, DC
hot shot pork belly just got promoted after working at his current job for less than a year. so proud of my baby. BUT the downside to it is he isnt moving to boston in august anymore like we planned because the promotion was too good to say no :’( anyways, we went out to celebrate on badget before the 1st big fat check comes in.
sushi taro in DC we went. i think i just found my FAVE restaurant in DC! the meal was so awesome. sushi was one of the best ive ever had. fish was one of the freshest. the price was very reasonable. dessert menu was epic comparing to average japanese restaurant.
according to yelp reviews, they have happy hour from 5:30-7pm on a weekday, i think sushi and drinks are half off at this bar. that just sounds too awesome. i have to come back and have a feast during happy our one of these days!
there is a private room/sushi counter (yea they dont call it sushi bar) that you can reserve. the waitress said the wait is about a month and you can send them an email for reservation of that room. one of these days i need to come back and eat at the sushi counter!

10 hrs braised pork belly in sweetened soy. omg it smelled amazing when it arrived. melts in your mouth. perfect texture and flavor. it’s something that my aunt makes. if a person doesnt eat fat loves it it says something. delishhhhhhh

omakase sushi. fish was soooo fresh. even a lot fresher than pabu that we had couple days ago. it is cheaper than pabu as well. i wish i could come back everyday.

hoji cha pudding- baked green tea pudding with caramel. this was fantastic. thick but yummy flavor. usually japanese restaurants only serve mochi ice cream or some sort for desserts, but sushi taro actually offers a great selection of desserts. a lot of them looked attempting. i cant wait to go back and try them all.

i loved this place. it gets a full 5/5 bunny belly.
thanks to hot shot pork belly for picking out another great restaurant and congrats on the promotion. i love you!

Toki Underground @ Washington, DC
toki underground is a very popular ramen joint in DC. according to yelp, the wait could be up to 2 hours.
last nite, pork belly and i went there late. surprisingly there was no wait; we got seats at the bar right away.
they offer beers that you dont usually find at other places. the tokyo black tasted like guinness. taiwan beer was nice and light.
this tastes like blue moon.
pork dumplings- you get to choose how they are cooked. pan fried, boiled, or deep fried. we had pan fried. they were really juice and tasty. so good. even better, half dozen was only $5 bux! best $5 bux you can ever spend at a restaurant!

toki hataka classic – noodles were good although couldve been a lil bit more chewy. rich and tasty broth. a lot of meat. runny egg.

the food was really good, but i dont know if i would wanna wait for 2 hours for it. come on a late sunday night, you wont have to wait for too long.

Crawfish and Seafood @ The Boiling Crab Los Angeles, CA
pork belly’s friend took us to the boiling crab last spring break when we visited cali. i forgot which location we went to but it was a long wait. the wait was worth it because i def enjoyed the food there.
this place is probably the most original Cajun crawfish place before everybody tries to copy their concept and open their own version of boiling crab.
i forgot what this was:

we ordered the whole SHABANG sauce. very bold and flavorful! very yummy

the flavor was so strong that my fingers still smelled like the sauce for 2 days.
bib time yay
i absolute love this place and ive found an alternative ‘the boiling crab’ wannabe in virginia.

Online Ordered Cupcakes @ Georgetown Cupcake
pork belly ordered cupcakes from georgetown cupcake last year for my birfuday. whenever we drive by the shop in georgetown there is a huge line all the way down the street and i dont even see where it ends. so this place must must be amazing right?
mehh not really. they have a very huge and creative selection of cupcakes, but their cupcakes tend to be very sugary, heavy, sweet tasting.
i prefer sprinkles and the sweet lobby in DC than georgetown cupcake
im glad that i never waited in that cray line for this!

French Macarons, Madeleines, and Cupcakes @ The Sweet Lobby Capitol Hill Washington, DC pt.2
pork belly came boston to visit this past weekend and he brought me french macarons and cupcakes from the sweet lobby. he even skipped work to get me these. <3<3<3<3<3
he got me 6 macarons, 5 cupcakes, and 4 green tea madeleines.

the macarons were ok this time. the purple and pink combo one was mad sweet. i liked the purple one the best but i dont know what flavor it is tho. i dont think i ll ask pork belly get macarons for them anymore because they arent that special. i think i like macarons from macaron sweeterie better.

only this purple one made me go ummmmmmmmm yummmm ummmm

cupcakes are so good though so we ll continue to get cupcakes from sweet lobby.
Green Tea Pistachio, Coconut, Fire Breathing Chocolate, and Red Velvet
the green tea pistachio tasted a lot better than i remembered. so goood.
coconut one was jus ok. wouldnt get it again
the red velvet was yum. it’s topped with tangy cream cheese frosting so yumm cream cheeeese!!!

this is the fire breathing chocolate: Mandarin-scented dark chocolate cake, filled with spicy fudge,
topped with milk chocolate buttercream.
i def felt the ‘fire’. it was interesting but i doubt it would get it again

Crawfish @ Chasin’ Tails Crawfish Arlington, VA Alternative to the Boiling Crab
when pork belly and i visited cali last year we loved the boiling crab there; we have been looking for an alternative to the boiling crab around VA and MA ever since. we have tried the Hot N Juicy Crawfish in DC but it was iight. the crawfish was wayy too small and the taste wasnt cutting it.
this louisiana crawfish and seafood joint just opened in arlington so pork belly and i decided to go for a visit.
we ordered the bayou catch special which consists of crawfish, clams, mussels, shrimps, snow crab legs, corns, potatoes, and andouille sausages. we ordered it with the whole shebang sauce and hot. they also have whole shebang @ the boiling crab.
i liked the shrimps a lot. they are nice and big. the crawfish was good too. well cleaned and not sandy. i didnt really like the snow crab legs. wayyy too salty. corns and potatoes were yummmm.
the whole shebang sauce was really salty. i had six glasses of coke and felt nauseous afterwards.
ask for a bib cuz the sauce and juice will get everywhere. it would be a messy meal so please dont come here for first dates.
the service was really good. the waitress kept bring me refills of coke without me even asking for it.

French Macarons and Cupcakes @ The Sweet Lobby Capitol Hill Washington, DC
my lovely pork belly aka the best bf in the world surprised me with macarons and cupcakes from the sweet lobby with this cutie peng peng from hallmark
they actually won the cupcake wars. he got me the Mango Cream, Green Tea Pistachio, Pineapple Inside Out, Vanilla Milk Chocolate, Chocolate Hazelnut. pork belly loves the green tea pistachio one. well he loves everything green tea. i personally love the yellow one which is the mango cream. i like the pineapple inside out: oven-roasted pineapples give this cupcake its distinctive ‘pineapple upside down cake’ flavor. Topped with cream cheese frosting and toasted shredded coconut. the strawberry cupcake from sprinkles is still my all time favorite, but the sweet lobby def beats everything else.
the frosting is very buttery instead of sugary and i think they stole the cake recipe from sprinkles because it tastes pretty much like sprinkles.
the green tea pistachio that pork belly loves

i actually like their macarons. i dont think they are authentic french macarons but i like them because they dont have the heavy almond flour taste that a lot macarons have. i like the pink and white combo one the best. i dislike the darker green one cuz it tastes like vodka. i know. weird.
they have tons weird flavors. some of the flavors: Hazelnut Praline Salted Caramel, Red Hot Chili Chocolate, Passionfruit Milk Chocolate, Spicy Curry Mango, Caramel, Pistachio, Rose, Vanilla Vanilla Vanilla, Milk Chocolate, Red Velvet, Green Tea, Lemon-Raspberry, Orange-Ginger, Sweet Potato, Raspberry, Cappuccino, Guava, and Coconut!
i like this one too:
they post the flavors of the day on their facebook page, you can check it before heading to the store.

my verdict
the sweet lobby > sprinkles > georgetown cupcakes
this place gets 5/5 bunny belly!
