Tanpopo Ramen House | Annandale, VA DC

this was our 2nd lunch right after To Sok Jip . we didnt even finish our food at To Sok Jip. since we are rarely in town now, we had to force ourselves to try as many places as we could.

tanpopo ramen house is next to A&J.

i really couldnt eat anymore, so i made pork belly to order a bowl of his choice. of course he would order pork belly.

pork belly wolfed down the majority of the bowl. i had couple bites jus for blogging purposes. one of the worst ramen ive ever had.
noodles- exact same noodle you can find at hmart, the packaged ones. im not talking about the deep fried one dollar instant noodles. im talking about these frozen ramen:

broth - cut corner quicker msg version.

pork- bland and dry.

they also have a sushi bar. would u eat sushi at a ramen house?

we rarely eat chinese food in VA because the selection is so limited. pork belly wanted to try sichuan village because he was craving for spicy chinese food, so why not write a review and support my own people !!!

they offer buffet or you can order your own. we skipped the buffet of course and you should too. the menu looks pretty authentic to me. they have tons stuff on the back of the menu as well.

spicy fish. 水煮鱼

shredded potato. this is what i loved to eat when i was young, potatoes, i love it in any way. fried, stir fried, mashed, steamed, you name it. you cannot usually find this in restaurant especially in the states.

although it is not the nicest chinese restaurant, the food here is very decent. more authentic than a lot of places around the area. very reasonable priced and fast friendly service. i would def come back for more!!!

hey guess what else i got this weekend from pork belly’s mom besides that beautiful dress that his mom made for me.

omggggg ive been wanting this purse forrrrrrevevevevevveverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and his mom was generous enough to give me as a gift !!!!!!!!!! i was gonna save up my entire life for it since the price goes up like everyday. ive been wanting it ever since it was 2k and now it’s 4k. im so luckyyyy jejejejejejejeeee. i still cant believe i got it! as a gift too! omgggg! feel so lovvvvvveeeed!!!!!! this is what exactly i wanted! the reissue flap !! although sliver/black would be more perfect but i cant complain. now i got my camera and my purse, there is really nothing else i want in my life right now. next thing -> a house for me and pork belly!

ok enough showing off, the rest is some random pix from this weekend. pork belly and i wanted to see ai weiwei’s exhibit in dc museum, but ended up it isnt til this fall. we still went around and took a few pix of other stuff they had.

Maple Ave Restaurant @ Vienna, VA

pork belly and i went to the maple ave for din din today. we made a reservation online and the restaurant was pretty empty when we got there. the place is pretty small.

service was excellent and fast. probably because there were only two tables including us.

pork belly and i have gained a million lbs in the last a few days. so fatt

the chef’s last name is Ma, so i assumed that he is asian/chinese. i do find their food a lil asian fusion.

bread:

shrimp & grits
jumbo tiger shrimp, venison blueberry sausage,
red onions, piquillo peppers, stoneground grits

crème fraiche chicken wings
kendall farms crème fraiche, korean chili paste

steamed mussels
PEI mussels, saffron coconut broth, thai chiles,
chinese chorizo, grilled crostinis
i liked these the best.

baked mac
gruyere vermont cheddar mornay, rotini,
herbs de provence panko crust

mushroom asparagus risotto
mushroom duxelle, fresh asparagus,
swiss gruyere cheese, crostinis

the food was very good but didnt wow me, probably because i was really full from lunch. pretty flavorful and creative. good to try.

Macarons @ Silva’s Patisserie Vienna, VA

i was craving for some macarons today and trying to get pork belly take me to sweet lobby. he felt lazy and refused to drive me all the way to DC, so we searched for a place thats closer to pork belly’s house. it’s also on our way to our din din at Maple Ave.

but guess what? i found the worst macaron place ever. the macarons were awfullll. omg seriously. first they looked really artificial and excessively colored, but i thought how bad can it be so i bought one of each. they weren’t cheap. almost $2 each. but oh man, they are super bad. super artificial sugary weird tasting.

i also got the mocha brownie thingy. meh it was average. the two chocolate truffles werent good either.

please run away from this place.

Lunch Buffet @ Supper Club of India Herndon, VA

pork belly and i tried to come to this place so many times. they were either not open or about to close. they offered lunch buffet during lunch and it looked decent so we did the buffet instead of ordering.

they had shrimp curry, chicken curry, potato curry, cauliflower and peas, and some other things. i liked the chicken and potato curry. dig that flat bread in that curry. yummmmm

the best part is the buffet only costs $10 per person!!! all you can eat yum curry! im sold!

Thai Food @ Bangkok 54 Arlington, VA

pork belly aka the best bf eversu’s sis is getting married tmr. we came to bangkok 54 for din din after rehearsal today.

the food was above average i’d say. well decorated although it looks kinda ghetto from outside.

i had a glass of riesling at the bar while waiting the group to arrive. didnt like it. i also had thai iced tea but it was too sweet and i could barely taste the tea.

the menu for our group:

calamari: where is the salt and pepper as described?

tum yum: i hate when all the lemongrass or all the herbs are still in the soup. i had to spit them out arggg. besides that it tastes normal.

duck curry: fave dish of the night. bold and flavorful.

shrimp pad thai: this was below average. tasted weird to me

pad cha from the sea: a bit too spicy and salty.. in a bad way.

snow peas: yay greens

this place gets 3.5/5 bunny belly

flan is so good and addictinggggg!!!!! best flan I’ve ever had! i loved it so much that i had to go back the second day! love it love it love it!!!!!!!!!!

the only turn off is its sorta a fast food resturants but its kinda slow!! i missed the entire 4th quarter of lakers game by waitin for my food to come out

Soondubu / Tofu Soup @ Lighthouse Tofu/Vit Goel Tofu Centreville, VA

this is my to-go soondubu (tofu soup) place in VA. this place is relatively new; they have a different location in annadale. this one is bigger, cleaner, brighter than the one in annadale and it is closer to pork belly’s house. the soondubu is really good. no where in boston has anything close.

i had the mushroom one. full of different kinds of mushrooms!!! love it!!!
