pork belly and i went back to VA to visit his family last weekend. VA has a large korean population, so there are a lot good korean restaurants there. i had to take advantage of this and get my korean food fix whenever im in town since korean food in boston jus sucks.
my fave korean dish is Samgyetang (Ginseng chicken soup). i decided to check out this ajumma hole in the wall joint since they serve sam gye tang.
very packed. a lot ppl jus came from church.

holy sht! you probably cant tell from the pic, but this is the biggest seafood pancake ive ever seen. very thick and loaded with so much seafood! ive never seen anything like this. mind blown

samgyetang – Ginseng chicken soup
not as good as mr.zhang’s in beijing, but it was good enough. the chicken wasnt super tender, oh well. i was satisfied.

the restaurant is very busy and there is only one server. she barely speaks any english and was speaking korean to me at the whole time even i looked no clue what she was saying. altho she’s super busy, she still was very attentive. she filled up our water and brought us banchan before we had to ask. will def be back!

Samgyetang 张师傅参鸡汤 Mr. Zhang’s Ginseng Chicken Soup @ WangJing Beijing, China
haiiii, i just got back from my china trip. i was there for a week visiting the fam and friends. i rarely eat chinese food here in the states cuz they are all not authentic and full of MSG. i was soooo stuffed with all kinds asian food while i was in beijing. i ate from the morning to night, countless meals and snacks everyday. there was not a moment that i felt hungry cuz i was constantly eating. it wasnt really a good feeling tho but my fam and friends just kept feeding me because it’s a way to show hospitality in china and i couldnt resist.
without further ado, lets see what i ate in beijing.
honestly, im not a big fan of korean food. even korean bbq, it doesnt get me excited. i crave soondubu (soft tofu stew) every now and then, but thats pretty much it. samgyetang is what i love the most outta all, but unfortunately i cannot find one decent samgyetang place in the states.
mr. zhang’s samgyetang is the bomb! it is located in wangjing where has a huge korean population.
mr. zhang’s doesnt offer any other dishes except for ginseng chicken soup ranging from $10 to $150.

the soups are made of 20+ herbs including ginseng. ginseng has a lot health benefits such as stimulating immune system, treating diabetes, preventing cancer, lowering cholesterol levels, etc.
i got there super early and the girls were cutting up daikon.

not only Samgyetang is extremely healthy for you, but also super super tasty. the chicken is really tender and tasty. its been cooked for hours in low heat so all the flavors of the herbs can get into the chicken. there is sticky rice inside the chicken which is also tasty.

the ginseng inside the chicken

this place is super popular. it fills up quickly around 11:30 during lunch time. highly recommended!! i have to come here at least once whenever im in beijing!

chef pork belly cooked me swordfish with ponza sauce with rice
he picked this up for me at ebisuya

he also got me this limited edition bearbrick x up. isnt it the coolest gift ever!?!?
up is our movie. my fave movie ever.

he even has a grape soda cap thingy. love it!!

pork belly also made me a matcha green tea mousse cake at his house and carried it allllll the way to boston. failed 2 times and this was the third try. how can i not love this guy!?
isnt this the MOST AWESOME cake ever!??! tasted sooooo goooood!!! freakin love it! yummm!
pork belly did take me to o ya on saturday for my birfuday din din. i took soooo many pix it ll take me forever to edit! stay tuned!
we went out bar hopping saturday nite with a few close friends. got pretty wasted at the end and didnt take too many pix, but we def had a sweet time.
Korean Garden Restaurant @ Allston/Brighton Boston, MA
found couple pix i took at korean garden a while back. my friend wanted to eat at korean garden and she didnt want korean bbq.
we got the haemul jungol – mixed seafood and veggie casserole. did not like it at all. very fishy. i like the seafood one at Suishaya in chinatown better. ive had the boodae jungol (a spicy casserole with ham, sausage, bacon, kimichi, bean curd and thick noodles) before. that one was better than the seafood one as i remembered.

seafood pancake – yum
their korean bbq and other stuff arent as bad, we just ordered the wrong stuff.

Sichuan Village @ Chantilly, VA and random pix from the weekend
we rarely eat chinese food in VA because the selection is so limited. pork belly wanted to try sichuan village because he was craving for spicy chinese food, so why not write a review and support my own people !!!
hey dont hate on my chopsticks pic

they offer buffet or you can order your own. we skipped the buffet of course and you should too. the menu looks pretty authentic to me. they have tons stuff on the back of the menu as well.

hot shot pork belly <3
pork belly’s mom made me this dress yay!! feel so loved!! his mom is awesome. if you need wedding dresses or need ur dress altered go visit http://www.leesburg-bridal.com/ best in the area!!
shredded potato. this is what i loved to eat when i was young, potatoes, i love it in any way. fried, stir fried, mashed, steamed, you name it. you cannot usually find this in restaurant especially in the states.

although it is not the nicest chinese restaurant, the food here is very decent. more authentic than a lot of places around the area. very reasonable priced and fast friendly service. i would def come back for more!!!

ok enough showing off, the rest is some random pix from this weekend. pork belly and i wanted to see ai weiwei’s exhibit in dc museum, but ended up it isnt til this fall. we still went around and took a few pix of other stuff they had.
Memorial Day Weekend @ Virginia & Washington, DC *pix heavy*
i visited pork belly last weekend in virginia. we had such a great ‘outdoor’ weekend.
saturday we went to the national zoo in DC. we took the train instead of driving there. DC has the creepiest subway ever. so dark and creepy.
panda statue
the zoo is FREE just like other museums in DC
perhaps because it is free. there arent so many animals in the zoo.
cheetah
panda:
there are two pandas: tian tian and mei xiang. this is the first time ive ever since a live non-sleeping panda super close. w00t! the pandas were both eating bamboos. i really think their main meals are not bamboos but meat instead. how can they only eat bamboos and get that fat. they are aggressive diners.
panda was shipped in this cage from china.

some panda porn. they tried to reproduce on their own but couldnt get pregnant ![]()

this might be the 1st time ive seen a live owl.
after the zoo, we headed to sweet lobby. although pork belly bought sweet lobby for me a few times, i hadnt been to their real store yet.
the store is so tiny. im sorta on a diet so we just got couple things and ate on the spot. the cupcakes were so good when they were fresh.
strawberry champagne + green tea w/ a macaron on top.
check out pork belly’s panty and flies tee in the back :T
after sweet lobby we headed to georgetown. we rented two bikes and biked around.
look what i got lol….. i also bought a bubble bar from lush.
we had dinner @ chasin tails crawfish in arlington and watched the celtics vs. 76ers game 7. the food that night wasnt so good and fresh and the waiter was super slow. meh i don’t know if i will return again.
Sunday
we went to Shilla to get some bingsoo and bubble tea after hot pot lunch @ Mala Tang
the green tea bingsoo is a beast. sooo goooddd omg!! the one @ pc cafe in boston is nothing but trash comparing to this.
the shaved ice is so fine + super delish green tea ice cream + mochi + yummy red bean
the pink bubble tea is guava flavored. tasted horrible it went straight to trash.
after yummy bingsoo its time for some biking. pork belly took me to the The Washington and Old Dominion Trail
“The 100-foot-wide W&OD has been called “the skinniest park in Virginia.” But it is also one of the longest parks, 45 miles of paved trail for walking, running, bicycling and skating and 32 miles of adjacent gravel trail for horseback riding. Built on the roadbed of the former Washington & Old Dominion Railroad, the multi-use W&OD Trail runs through the urban heartland and countryside of Northern Virginia.
W&OD Trail Hours: The park is open all year, from dawn to dusk.
Location: The W&OD Trail runs from Shirlington near I-395 to Purcellville in Loudoun County.”
Monday
after korean bbq @ honey pig we went to h mart next door to grab some snacks.
korean kit kat knock-offs
pork belly picked up this cuz he thought the expression of the chicken made this looked super good and spicy, but it turned out to be the opposite.
after h mart we went to our fave dessert place again – shilla
i couldnt resist sampling their bread/bakery. omg so good. heavenly good. i was in paradise.
we also went to hahaPink for sticker photos <3

after i was super stuffed from sampling all the bread, we headed to great falls park for hiking.
after hiking we drove back to reston center. i got a cupcake from red velvet cupcakery. they only had two flavors left. this chocolate one and carrot cupcake. i hate carrot cake so i didnt have a choice. it was good but nothing so special about it.
also went to Pilango Gelato for some gelato. i got the passion fruit flavor. soooooo goood and refreshingly deflish!!!!! loved loved it!
pork belly was hungry at this point, so he got a beacon burger and cajun fries from five guys. i couldnt resist so i ate half of the fries of course.

thanks to pork belly i had a such fun weekend. i love you <3
Honey Pig Gooldaegee Korean BBQ @ Centreville, VA
boston does not have any good korean food. i usually get my korean bbq fix in VA. with a larger korean population in virginia, you can find way better korean food in VA. honey pig is our to go korean bbq place. honey pigs have three locations in VA. the centreville one is the closest to pork belly’s house. this was actually the very first restaurant pork belly took me to in VA. it opens 24/7 and i love the atmosphere here.
it reminds me exactly like korea. they even use the same table in korea.
we order LA galbi and ribs. so yummmmm
they sell their tees. two pigs and one wears bunny ears awww.
this place gets 4/5 bunny belly.
