i enjoyed our meal at sichuan palace. i think its better than a few sichuan places in boston. relatively big portions. surprisingly we were super full after only 3 dishes. i am not too sure about the freshness of the ingredients. we all had mild diarrhea the second day and its not because the spiciness of the food, but that’s ok. help me to lose some weight! beach body or die trying baby!

like ebisuya, they can make sushi for you on the spot. $1 per nigiri?!?!??! thats crazyyyy even for uni!!!!!!!!! wayyyyyy cheaper than ebisuya, but i must say the fish quality is not so good, very not fresh. i also saw the guy works there pour white power stuff on the fish. i wonder if its preservatives.

i highly recommend to order in advance because it does take a while for them to make it. not the freshest fish and best quality sushi, but $1 sushi?!?!?!

Ebisuya Japanese Market @ Medford, MA Boston

ebisuya japanese market is 3 miles from where i live. they have a great selection of JDM groceries and sashimi grade fish and a sushi bar. they even have a good selection of JDM cosmetics and comic books. sushis are made to order at the sushi bar.

very reasonably priced. the fish is relatively fresh; however, the sushi is not so well made. the rice isnt firm; it would break apart when you pick it up. fish is kinda watery for some reason, possibly because they were frozen and the ice melted and caused the water in the fish. well, i still think it’s not bad at 2 bux each. all of these only cost $14 bux. if you just want a quick lunch, i wouldnt mind it.

grean tea shake @ $3.5. although i still prefer the one at Japonaise Bakery and Cafe, but this isn’t bad at all.

Sushi Taro @ Dupont Circle Washington, DC

hot shot pork belly just got promoted after working at his current job for less than a year. so proud of my baby. BUT the downside to it is he isnt moving to boston in august anymore like we planned because the promotion was too good to say no :’( anyways, we went out to celebrate on badget before the 1st big fat check comes in.

IMG_4297IMG_4478

sushi taro in DC we went. i think i just found my FAVE restaurant in DC! the meal was so awesome. sushi was one of the best ive ever had. fish was one of the freshest. the price was very reasonable. dessert menu was epic comparing to average japanese restaurant.

IMG_4304

according to yelp reviews, they have happy hour from 5:30-7pm on a weekday, i think sushi and drinks are half off at this bar. that just sounds too awesome. i have to come back and have a feast during happy our one of these days!

hoji cha pudding- baked green tea pudding with caramel. this was fantastic. thick but yummy flavor. usually japanese restaurants only serve mochi ice cream or some sort for desserts, but sushi taro actually offers a great selection of desserts. a lot of them looked attempting. i cant wait to go back and try them all.

Sushi @ Yoki Boston Station Landing Medford, MA

i have 2 friends live in station landing, so we go to yoki a lot. yoki actually got a lot better over the past year or so. i used to hate yoki due to their unbelievable slow service and average sushi, but now their service got a lot better and faster. i dont remember if they had a bar when they first opened, but now there is a bar and a few TVs which is perfect to watch a sports game. the atmosphere is casual and modern.

Pork and vegetable dumplings – were ok.

Red Sox Maki
Tuna, cucumber and avocado roll topped with fresh sliced tuna and a mixture of tempura flakes and baked chopped eel. Finished with tobiko, scallion and glazed sweet sauce and spicy mayo.
i personally hate sushi with mayo. i would ask for no mayo if i order this by myself.

the sushi they serve is relatively fresh. you never have to wait for seats. if you live close by and like sushi, it’s worth to check it out.

btw, i just got a new camera -> canon 5d mark II. ive been wanting this camera forever. i was deciding between this camera or a nice purse for my birfuday; i guess this was a much wiser decision. (my birfuday isnt til august (: )although 5d mark iii is out already, paying 1k for that i think its unnecessary since i am no where close to a pro yet. 5d mark ii should be good enough for me now. i already started wanting more lenses. i got the EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens which is decent all-around lens and its a good deal to purchase with the body. i also have a fisheye lens from pork belly since he sold his body. now i can finally take more sophisticated pictures! w00t w00t!!

Lunch @ Gourmet Dumpling House Chinatown Boston, MA

gourmet dumpling house is probably the most popular restaurant in chinatown. it’s always always packed and always a line outside the restaurant. i wanted to go there couple times to try their famous spicy fish but no way i would wait in line for it. last week i was really craving for spicy fish, so i thought maybe i can do takeout from that place so i dont have to wait in line. when i went to pick up my food at 11:30 am, the restaurant was already packed! really?!?!
guess what!! this is probably one of the best spicy fish ive had in boston if it’s not the BEST!! it actually has the numb taste to it instead of just spiciness. the big plus is: the pre-cooked their cabbage, so the cabbage is very tasty as well. i do not think any other spicy fish places pre-cook their veggies.
im in love with this place already. have been there two times since last week. i also heard the soup dumplings are good as well.

Lunch @ Sichuan Gourmet Boston Brookline, MA

pork belly and i were on our way to FuGaKyu to get some sushi before watching Jiro Dreams of Sushi Documentary (btw it’s pretty interesting.) sunday, but we saw sichuan gourmet and i was like ummmm that looks good too. i never got my spicy fish fix on friday so we changed our mind immediately.
this was my second time here. their food is somewhat americanized than other sichuan restaurants, but i find the ingredients are relatively fresh. the place is huge and you never have to wait! yes yes yes!!!

my porky belly w/ cutie face impatiently waiting for foooda

porky belly’s fave fried spicy sichuan chicken. this is not authentic at all but doesnt taste too bad.

Soup Dumplings @ Shanghai Gate Allston/Brighton Boston, MA

pork belly and i went to shanghai gate for din din last night. we come here pretty often and we love it!!! it is pretty authentic shanghai food even my friend from shanghai agrees!

we got the regulars:
i have no idea what is this called. i do not think it is on the menu. when i order it i just say the orange beef that comes with the buns.

it is so my favorite dish from shanghai gate! extremely good to eat with the bun!!! there it is with the bun:

the fishy with extra spicy sauce:

very very good to eat with rice!!!!

of course the famous soup dumplings from shanghai! nice and small which how they are supposed to be. not super greasy! taste just right. they are still nothing close to the soup dumplings i had in shanghai, but better than joe’s shanghai for sure!!!

people rave about joe’s shanghai from new york city, but when i went there, it’s soooooo badddd!! the soup dumplings were HUGE!! like buns!! and super greasy. man i thought i was drinking oil straight up. that place is so hyped! well, i went to the one in chinatown, maybe the one in flushing is better? i dont think im even curious to give it try after i had it in chinatown. worst soup dumplings ever had!

shanghai gate is pretty small, so you always have to wait for tables if you come on weekends and some nights. it is family style. the food comes out quickly.
this place gets 4.5/5 bunny belly.
