came to oishii sushi bar with Naotaka couple months ago. oishii has a few locations and this sushi bar is known for the best out of all. the wait wasnt too long on a weekday.
HOTATE OR IKA HOKKAIYAKI (Baked scallop with mayo)
hands down, one of the freshest fish ive had in boston, BUT i didnt like the way that they made my sushi. wayy too big, no wasabi between the fish and the rice, or jus the way they cut the fish. the restaurant itself is super small/packed and kinda smokey. i had to get up couple times so the waitress could get thru.

went to ten tables for a dinner date with my gf today cuz we had something to celebrate last min. i thought reservations would be so hard to get, but i managed get a reservation this morning.
ten tables is another neighborhood joint that supports local food. we got there a lil early so we sat at the bar while our table was getting ready.
the dinning room:
riesling, decent, but wasnt impressive.
we opted for the tasting menu, very good deal.
chicken liver – im not a fan of chicken liver at all, but this was probably the best chicken liver ive had. it kinda tasted like pig liver instead of chicken. not bad at all.
the restaurant’s pretty dark. extremely challenging for me to take pix. food pix didnt come out well sowwie.
Hake and Shellfish Stew with Couscous, Cauliflower, San Marzano Tomatoes, Red Peppers and Golden Raisins
i liked it a lot. very light but flavorful. i always like soupy dishes. havent had cauliflower forever.
Adobo Rubbed All Natural Hanger Steak with Farro & Braised Kale
i liked the flavor, but the steak itself wasn’t so tender.
blackberry with vanilla stuff on the bottom + hazelnut cookie – i expected it to be really sour but it wasnt which is good. i like the combination. the hazelnut cookie was awesome!
i really liked the ambience; i felt really comfortable like i was sitting in my own house and probably intimate if i were on a real date. service was average and informative. although i had an enjoyable experience overall, but i think this is a lil overrated. so many ppl rave about this place it’s crazy. people tend to compare ten tables with Bondir, but i think this doesnt even compare. if i give bondir a 10, ten table probably gets a 7 or lower. i still like how the food here is nice and light tasting, but it’s not as well executed as Bondir. bondir is a lil more perfect in every small way.

i like here better on weekdays. music is not as loud and the bar isnt as crowded. on weekends, the music are too loud to have a conversation with someone and you are not allowed to dance either.

i havent been to new ginza forever. my friend lives near watertown so we decided to go to new ginza for some sushi.
their service is mehhh and relatively slow. the quality of their food is better than their service, but after this visit, i doubt i will come back again unless im really in the area.
their selection of fish is already very limited. i was trying to order uni and scallop nigiri, but they did not have them. if you dont have them, dont put on the menu duh. i was depressed cuz i couldnt have my uni. i hate when restaurant is not consistent with their supplies. waste of my time and a good meal where i can get else where.
isobe age – white fish, crab stick, flying fish roe, avocado and shitake mushroom wrapped in layers.
i ordered the wrong one, i didnt mean to order this, but it turned out not so bad. we enjoyed it.
hokkaiyaki – large scallop with mayo on the shell with crab stick – i like this a lot. much much much better than yoki’s
waiting for our sushi, took forever to come.
our sushi finally came.
the messed up my order and had to go back to change it.
tuna, hirame, ebi, hamachi, tai. the fish was relatively fresh, but i dont why it tasted like dish wash soap. the rice was a lil bit salty for sushi rice so it’s overpowering the fish and made the fish tasted bland.
boston maki without mayo
this visit was somewhat disappointing. new ginza gets 3.5/5 bunny belly.

we went to nantasket beach yesterday. it’s actually pretty close to boston. the beach wasn’t that nice, but the water is clearer and warmer than hampton. cooked my bunny belly under the sun for a few hours then we decided to head back to boston for some FOOD!
my friend Eric suggested the legal seafood in waterfront. legal seafood really? well, he said this is the good one, right on water bla bla so i was convinced to go. we made a reservation right before heading there.
so basically this is the flagship of legal seafood. they named it legal harborside. it’s in waterfront located in the seaport district. it has three floors and each floor has its own concept. the 1st floor is just the regular legal seafood menu. the 2nd floor serves the fancier stuff and you can dine on the balcony which we did. the 3rd floor is a rooftop lounge.
guess what, i forgot to bring my CAMERA! aiyaaaa ;’( so im gonna steal a pic from their website ;P
the entrees were 30-50 $$ each and appetizers were about 10-20 $$, so we opted for the tasting menu.
i wasnt gonna take pix cuz im too good to snap with my iphone (jk), but the presentation of food actually looked pretty good. so here it is
grilled rare hiramasa, niçoise style
alaskan king crab cake, chorizo aioli
sweet pea soup, seared diver scallop, brown butter foam
then we had
pan roasted arctic char, grilled green garlic tapenade, cockles, braised baby fennel, romesco – very nice crisp skin
orange vanilla creamsicle
these are not pictured because by the time we had those, it got so dark already. the dinner lasted almost 3 hours because of extremely slow service. the food is def better than your average legal seafood and the view was very enjoyable, but the it still has the average sucky chain restaurant service. very rude, chaotic, slow service. they even brought us the wrong food. wine was not so good either.
it’s a good place to bring a date, but i’d def explore more places in the seaport district before i return to this one.
hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe weekend and happy monday!!!!!!
