like ebisuya, they can make sushi for you on the spot. $1 per nigiri?!?!??! thats crazyyyy even for uni!!!!!!!!! wayyyyyy cheaper than ebisuya, but i must say the fish quality is not so good, very not fresh. i also saw the guy works there pour white power stuff on the fish. i wonder if its preservatives.

i highly recommend to order in advance because it does take a while for them to make it. not the freshest fish and best quality sushi, but $1 sushi?!?!?!

we got the haemul jungol – mixed seafood and veggie casserole. did not like it at all. very fishy. i like the seafood one at Suishaya in chinatown better. ive had the boodae jungol (a spicy casserole with ham, sausage, bacon, kimichi, bean curd and thick noodles) before. that one was better than the seafood one as i remembered.

Maki Maki @ Allston/Brighton Boston and Crane Beach Ipswich, MA

herro !!!!
we have been going to the beach every sunday for the past 4 weekends now. we went to crane beach Ipswich, MA today. crane beach is so awesome. it’s relatively close to boston. i guess not a lot people know about it so its not so crowded as other beaches. there was absolute no traffic on our way there. very well organized. plenty of parkings although you have to pay $25 per car its def worth it! the water is pretty clear and no rocks on the beach. i think its even better than most beaches on the cape.

i highly recommend crane beach!! it’s the best ive been in MA and NH so far. let me know if you guys know any other good beaches around.

on the way to the beach we stopped by panera bread my fave place to get some breakfast. i had this lobster roll. love it cuz it has no mayo on it!!!!!!!!!!!!! wooohoooo!! i hate mayo.
IMG_0187

after a hard day chillin on the beach doing nothing, everyone was starving. my friend suggested to check out maki maki in brighton. i thought its a ghetto sushi buffet place, but it actually looks nicer than i expected. it’s similar to minado but with less selections but cheaper price tag. the fish isnt as fresh as minado in general, but i think minado’s food quality is def going downhill.

skip the desserts, skip all the mixed drinks, just grab a beer and just enjoy whatever game thats on.

Shabu Zen @ Allston/Brighton Chinatown Boston, MA

shabu/hot pot is probably my fave thing to eat in boston. if you ask me what would like to eat, 95% of the time i would say shabu. it’s just so comforting, warm, not so heavy, and simple flavors that are amazing delicious. shabu/hot pot is like fondue where you sit at a table and cook your food in a hot pot as you eat. ive had fondue at the melting pot. although i do like the cheese fondue, the meat fondue is horrible compare to shabu shabu.

i tend to not write reviews for places that i go often, but since i just bought a new camera i wanted to take some test shots with it.

shabu-zen has two locations. i have been going to the chinatown location for years til they opened the one in allston/brighton. now, i go to the allston/brighton location more often because they have a small parking lot in the back of their restaurant and the it is a lot more spacious than the chinatown location.

IMG_2148

they have a full bar. ive tried the sake mojitos once. eww.

the bar seats. they do have plenty of tables.
IMG_2208

ok. the deliciousness starts here -> the sauce. i believe it’s soy sauce, but they probably diluted with water. i love love dipping things with this sauce. this is why i choose shabu over the regular hot pot because of the sauce!
IMG_2184

the broth. they have a few variaties. i usually get the chinese spicy – sichuan style. it’s not really spicy and numbing like the real sichuan broth, but good enough.

Finest USDA Prime Rib Eye of Beef
IMG_2160

Seafood Platter
IMG_2170

i usually get the surf and turf which includes seafood platter with your choice of beef, chicken, pork, or lamb.

all courses come with assorted vegetable plate and a choice of udon noodle, vermicelli, or steamed jasmine rice. i always always get vermicelli.

IMG_2166

you can also order more veggies or other stuff on the side.
we ordered taro and fish paste. i always always get fish paste. yummm.
IMG_2177

IMG_2198

at the end of the meal they always bring you this free red bean soup dessert. it’s the perfect way to end the meal. i come here at least 4-5 times per month. service is very friendly, but sometimes they get very busy and could be a hustle to get their attention. overall, i love this place.

Sunset Cantina @ Allston/Brighton Boston, MA

ive been to sunset cantina a few times now. it’s a popular place among the students.

very generous portions, but food quality is average. the restaurant is big; we never have problems getting tables.

i believe this was mango margarita? pretty good altho lacking of alcohol

*pix taken by iphone*

my must get nachos. HUGE

fish? average. bland.

avocado & chicken sandwich. i love love avocado. it would be better if they used avocado spread instead. this did not meet our expectations.

Ramen @ Pikaichi and Super 88 Food Court Allston/Brighton Boston, MA

a friend of mine told me that they sell yang rou chuaner lamb skewer @ super 88 food connection food court, so pork belly and i went there immediately to try it out.

super 88 is accessible by the subway and they also have a parking lot.

it took us a while to find it. it’s located at the corner of the food court. the chinese name of the food stall is called 川鲁园  and the english name is ‘one of the kind’.

the lamb skewers yang rou chuaner are fried instead of grilled. it tasted ok, but not even close to what we had in flushing. they are mad spicy cuz i asked for spicy. you can ask for non-spicy.

we also got pork buns from one of the food stalls. this is jus bbq pork inside buns. very straight forward. nothing special.

i would like to mention that the bubble tea place inside the food court is pretty good. better than a lot of bubble tea places in boston. worth a try.

i also craved for ramen and i know there is a ramen place called pikaichi right inside super 88. the place is tiny so we had to wait about 20 mins. the store is ran by japanese people = good/friendly service.

i got the spicy miso ramen and curry rice combo.

the meat was dry i didnt like it. the ramen was ok, not the best ive had. broth was rich. spicy miso ramen is not my fave ramen, but i always always order it. anything spicy jus sounds so good. cannot resist.

the curry rice was only 2 bux more i think, but there is 0 meat in it. just the curry broth. i did like the texture of the rice. i love japanese sushi rice. so lovely chewy.

pork belly had the pikaichi miso ramen. i think it tasted way better than my spicy miso ramen.
