Restaurant Orange Julep Gibeau and Smoked Meat @ Schwartz’s Montreal, QC Canada

we drove by Restaurant Orange Julep Gibeau from our hotel to downtown everyday. there is always a line, so i decided to check it out.
they are famous for their freshly squeezed trademark orange drink, Gibeau Orange Julep. it’s also a fast food restaurant. i saw a lot poutines on the menu.

IMG_3315

it tastes sweet. sweeter than normal orange juice. i actually liked it a lot.

all the entrees choices looked amazing. i just couldnt pass on paella tho.

paella barroco – lobster, shrimp, fresh scallop, morcilla, chorizo, tomatoes, red peppers, green peas & saffron
i did enjoy this a lot, but i believe this wasnt the best paella ive ever had. the rice was a lil undercooked and dry.

Au Pied de Cochon @ Montréal, QC

i went to montreal labor weekend for my friend’s biirfuday. we had an epic time there which involved with heavyyyy drinking, major lack of sleep, and hangover and result of that -> lost of appetite.

we made a reservation for au pied de cochon a month in advance and still got a 10:30pm reservation for sunday. i was dying to go there cuz it was featured on one of the anthony bourdain shows. being the first meal of the day at 10:30pm, i was still not hungry. the meal was supposed be super heavy, but because of my hangover, i could only eat a lil bit of it before i started to feel nauseous. bummmmer :’(

i still did enjoy the meal a lot, i would have enjoyed it even more if i werent in a such bad condition tho.

ok without further ado lets see what au pied de cochon is all about.

the restaurant was still mad packed when we arrived at 10:30pm on a sunday night. this pic was taken at 12:30am when we were leaving.

au pied de cochon is heavy on foie gras, but none of us is too crazy abt it so we ordered the foie gras poutine.

Foie Gras Poutine – this was soooo yummm. im not a huge fan of foie gras, but it was soo goood i had like 4 pieces of foie gras.

IMG_3176

IMG_3168

Pickled Tongue – i think this was the best beef tongue ive ever had. zero gameyness, super tender, well flavored, good texture.

IMG_3196

beef tartare – i love all kinds raw meat, but i didnt like this. i didnt like how its marinated. i think like the strong alcohol taste. very gamey as well.
IMG_3275

one of the special of the day – shepherd’s pie. of course they would have shepherd’s pie for special on sunday night. you’d know what i meant if you read anthony bourdain’s book. anyways, we did enjoy this a lot.
IMG_3250

1/2 magret (breasts), 100g foie gras, 60 ml glace de viande au balsmque (meat), 180 ml d’embeurree de chou (buttered cabbage), 1/2 tete d’ail roti (roasted garlic),  2 branches de thym

ohhhh look at all that fatttt. the duck wasnt ducky at all which i liked. it’s jus tooooo oily for me to eat it so i only had couple bites.

ugh i hate blurrrry pic

poutine is a classic quebecois dish. la banquise is voted the ‘best poutine’ in town as well as the ‘best selection of poutine’. it opens 24/7 !!! traditional poutine consists of fries, curd cheese, and gravy. not only they offer the traditional poutine that pork belly got, but also 25 different kinds of poutine. i ordered the one with ground beef and green pepers.

bonjour.

we went to montreal last weekend to watch the f1 grand prix.

friday morning before the driving to montreal, we went to pork belly’s fave dim sum spot Hei La Moon to get some dim sum.
i think hei la moon is the best dim sum place in boston. the place is huge; you never have to wait for seats even on weekends.

IMG_9790

IMG_9810

din din time!!!!
we decided to go with french since we were in canada. our choices were limited because a lot of places were fully booked and some required formal attire. chris picked O’Thym which was totally delish. the restaurant was very casual and BYOB which means they do not serve alcohol/wine but you are welcome to bring your own wine. we were the only table that did not bring wine because the liquor stores were already closed at that time. all the diners spoke french as well as the waiter. thank god it wasnt a tourist spot! i wish restaurants in boston are BYOB, but alcohol is super profitable i doubt any restaurants would wanna do it.
