Halloween nnnnnnnn

halloween pretty much became my fave ‘holiday’ ever since i stopped getting money on chinese new years. i rarely do a non food related post, but i thought i’d share some pix. i used to go out 2-3 nights in a row dressing up in different costumes, but this year i didnt feel like to. just one night one costume and nothing too crazy.

hope everyone had a great halloween weekend. ive been pretty busy packing and moving out. have to move out before the storm hits. my food posts will be up soon. stay full and safe!!!!

Emerald lounge
i like here better on weekdays. music is not as loud and the bar isnt as crowded. on weekends, the music are too loud to have a conversation with someone and you are not allowed to dance either.

Tavern in the Square @ Boston Allston, MA

last nite we went to tavern in the square after din din @ coppa in back bay. it’s a popular sports bar or a bar in general in allston.

my friend really wanted dessert so she ordered the fudge cake. was not good at all. we barely touched the cake.

Untitled

calamari

jack

coconut colada
Untitled

sparkling mango – i dont drink beer unless there is no other options. i was hoping the drinks could be acceptable even tho its a sports bar. bad decision. they turned out to be horrible. i had one sip and never touched it again.

skip the desserts, skip all the mixed drinks, just grab a beer and just enjoy whatever game thats on.

Island Creek Oyster Bar @ Fenway Boston, MA

i have been trying to eat at island creek oyster bar forever. i could never get a reservation online (opentable) no matter how in advance. the place is huge so i figured no way they are packed every night. one of my college friends was in town; i decided to go to island creek oyster bar without a reservation. we were lucky enough to get a parking spot and seated immediately upon arrival. the place was busy but plenty of empty seats since it’s so huge. i tend to love places that have high ceilings. i really enjoyed the ambience: trendy and classy.

the entire wall is made of oyster shells.

we started off with riesling. wine was ok.

i also wanna mention about their butter. i loved it. so yum with a tint of sweetness.

appetizer. No Shell Prince Edward Island Mussels
white wine cream, garlic, shallots, parsley

this was my fave thing of the entire meal. loved the broth.

my friend tried 3 diff kinds of oysters. their oysters are supposed to be the best oysters in town. my friends thought they were good but a little bit fishy and oysters at neptunes  are def better and more fresh.

Pan Roasted Rhode Island Monkfish
whole grain spaetzle, grilled onion,
lemon caper butter

this was good but nothing amazing.

LOBSTER ROE NOODLES
braised short rib, grilled lobster,
maitake mushrooms, English peas, Pecorino

i ordered this dish because it’s probably the most popular dish here. the pasta itself was NOT so ‘al dente’ but overall wasnt bad.

it was a lil bit salty for my liking. the beef and lobster were well cooked. notice there is ONE french fry in my plate. i wonder if it really came with it?

again, i really liked the ambience of this place. very spacious and relaxing. the food isn’t the greatest food on earth, but i would def come here again to hang out. the open til 1 in the morning.

my fave part of the meal: at the end of the meal we wanted to order more drinks, the waiter poured us 3 free glasses of wine. how awesome was that!?!? free drinks w00t!!!!!

because of this i am giving this place 5/5 bunny belly!!

Sunset Cantina @ Allston/Brighton Boston, MA

ive been to sunset cantina a few times now. it’s a popular place among the students.

very generous portions, but food quality is average. the restaurant is big; we never have problems getting tables.

i believe this was mango margarita? pretty good altho lacking of alcohol

*pix taken by iphone*

my must get nachos. HUGE

fish? average. bland.

avocado & chicken sandwich. i love love avocado. it would be better if they used avocado spread instead. this did not meet our expectations.

this place gets 3/5 bunny belly

49 Social @ Downtown Boston, MA

we went to 49 social for a friend’s birtfuday. we seated in the basement where the live band was playing. they have a live jazz band. i thought the atmosphere was great for hosting a private party. the food was delish, but the service was extremely slow. took forever to serve, but i dont know if it’s because the size of our group was too large.

Thai Food @ Bangkok 54 Arlington, VA

pork belly aka the best bf eversu’s sis is getting married tmr. we came to bangkok 54 for din din after rehearsal today.

the food was above average i’d say. well decorated although it looks kinda ghetto from outside.

i had a glass of riesling at the bar while waiting the group to arrive. didnt like it. i also had thai iced tea but it was too sweet and i could barely taste the tea.

the menu for our group:

calamari: where is the salt and pepper as described?

tum yum: i hate when all the lemongrass or all the herbs are still in the soup. i had to spit them out arggg. besides that it tastes normal.

duck curry: fave dish of the night. bold and flavorful.

shrimp pad thai: this was below average. tasted weird to me

pad cha from the sea: a bit too spicy and salty.. in a bad way.

snow peas: yay greens

this place gets 3.5/5 bunny belly
