cant believe its almost 2014. this brings you to my last post of the year!
we visited fort point’s newly opened row 34 a few days ago. row 34, ‘the workingman’s oyster bar’, is a sister restaurant to island creek oyster bar (Skip Bennett, Jeremy Sewall, Garrett Harker, and Shore Gregory).
yes, you are here for oysters and beers. although oyster selection is limited, the GOOD news is they are about 50 cents cheaper than island creek.
seafood is my favorite thing to eat, so Island Creek Oyster Bar is def one of the restaurants that i visit very often in boston. NOT because the food is mind blowing, it’s just because it’s decent all around. row 34 feels the same way. food was good but wasnt WOW. food quality appeared to be good but somehow a few things tasted fishy to me.
it sounds like a joke if i say i just cant find many good seafood restaurants in boston that has a huge selection of seafood considering the fact we are right next to the ocean.
The Oceanaire Seafood Room – way too pricey, uncreative/lame menu
Neptune Oyster – GREAT food, but impossible to go because of LONG waits, terrible parking situation, eating w/groups (>2 ppl) is impossible.
legal seafood – uncreative/lame menu, food is meh
Atlantic Fish Company – crazy sandy shellfish – NO THANK yOU!
B & G Oysters – decent food, but small space. always have to make a reservation, cant go spontaneously
island creek oyster and row 34:
spacious – dont always have to plan ahead, walk-ins are ok on some nights.
food – decent, relatively big and creative selection of raw and cooked seafood.
ambience – nice, you can even catch a game at island creek
drinks – big selection of beer and wine
price – not super pricey
parking – somewhat easy to find.
